2023 WINTER MOVEMENT CLASSES WITH TANYA LEE
10 week session ~ Jan. 17 to Mar. 23 ~

Over 10 weeks, we’ll work towards a collective goal.  This winter class session guides us into spring through the domains of Aquarius and Pisces – the last signs of the zodiac before we begin anew in Aries. This is the time of year to align with the crossroads of endings & beginnings – the phase of transformation in which an organism grows from a seed; the story of germination and emergence of nature and of ourselves.

The technique classes and storytelling choreographies of this session aim to align with this time of year and specific phase of the transformation process. Over this 10 weeks, we will have 2 different vibes of movement classes that will both explore the journey of germination and emergence:

  • Tuesdays we will explore slow deep muscle control with a snake-like quality to embody how a seed first grows roots to reach into the soil, searching for water.
  • Thursdays we will turn up the heat and explore energetic, fierce, sassy warrior movements to embody how a seed shoot emerges and grows towards the top of the soil breaking ground to explore sunlight.

Our 10 week semester will close with a student showcase celebration! This will be our 3rd Annual EMERGE theatre show and community social on Friday March 24th, 2023.  If you enroll in either of the 2 choreography classes, you will have the option to perform in the show!

Please Note:  Class space is limited to 20 students.  Full registration secures your spot. Early Bird 15% incentive until Nov. 30th, 2022. Fir Studio at Evergreen Community Spaces 1709 8 Ave NE

TABOO TUESDAY

FOUNDATIONAL TECHNIQUE & CONDITIONING  7:00pm – 7:55pm
Each class will be a new movement adventure with rad tunes!  This is a full-body exploration that can be modified for beginner to seasoned movers.  If you are new to Body Art Motion, this class is an excellent place to start!  If you love to geek out on technique and need to ground into your body – this is your class. Drop-in classes may also be available depending on capacity.

CONJURE MOTION CHOREOGRAPHY (SNAKEY): 8:00pm – 8:55pm
This piece has a slinky, snakey, slower moving energy and aims to tell the story of emergence in the transformation process in which an organism grows from a seed. In this story, the energy is more contained and internal with deep muscle control to embody how a seed first grows roots to reach into the soil, searching for water.  It’s alchemical storytelling performance art where the inner witch is embodied to endure the winter into spring, magnetizing a goal to manifest a desire into reality.  Enrolling in this class includes an option to perform this choreography at the EMERGE Showcase March 24th.

"As much as it might scare us, we long to express our soul’s beauty and purpose in the world and we need to feel supported enough to do so. If we’re not welcomed, invited and appreciated, we may withdraw. If embraced, encouraged and given permission, we unlock our hidden treasures."
