EMERGE ’21
A Solo Exploration Project
by Tanya Lee (Amaris)

Our school usually has a Spring Show called “Emerge”. In 2021, due to pandemic restrictions, our show was cancelled.
Tanya decided to take on a new type of Spring Emergence project.

This DIY video series was produced during the Spring of 2021 as a self-knowledge experimental project to bridge the terrestrial with the celestial through embodiment of the 4 classical elements as expressed through the first 4 signs of the Zodiac as they EMERGED through their New Moon phases.  Each video was conceptualized, filmed, edited and published by Tanya (Amaris) within the 2 week waxing phase of each corresponding New Moon and released to the public on the Full Moon.

CARDINAL FIRE
Aries New Moon
April 12, 2021

Music sourced from ZEPHRŸM’s Aries New Moon mix on Soundcloud.

Aries – the very first zodiac – the initial spark of life emerging as the single spiritual warrior Self from the abyss of darkness.  Locking into personal desire while also battling demons clinging from in the shadows of past cycles. She positions for the hunt – alert and vigilant.  Birthed from the eye of vesica piscis into this physical world; alone and with the instinctual need to survive.

MUTABLE AIR
Gemini New Moon
June 10th, 2021

Music sourced from ZEPHRŸM’s Gemini New Moon mix on Soundcloud.

Mutable Air reminds us that we are never truly alone and also that in life we are born alone and we die alone – so it might be a good idea to be your own best friend ;-).  Hermes reminds us to study the part of ourselves that is the conscious mind, is to study duality. Where there is light there is shadow. What goes up must come down. As above, so below. As within, so without….

FIXED EARTH
Taurus New Moon
May 11, 2021

Music sourced from ZEPHRŸM’s Taurus New Moon mix on Soundcloud.

We are bound to a body in this lifetime – a body as fixed earth – as the way we harness this physical world of senses.  Ruled by Venus, the OG goddess, we connect to the divine feminine through flesh and bone.  And with that comes the shadows of self-worth through idealized body-image as projected onto us by patriarchal society, selfies and likes.

CARDINAL WATER
Cancer New Moon
July 9th, 2021

Music sourced from ZEPHRŸM’s Cancer New Moon mix on Soundcloud.

This video includes a very special guest who is so very near and dear to my heart, and who was also born during a Cancer Moon! I truly feel like this piece created itself. I had no idea this was going to happen. I wanted to catch the train that travels beside my mom’s property because it held so many childhood memories for me. When I started filming the train, I looked up and saw my Mom watching. I wasn’t expecting that since she had just had a major Cancer surgery and was still recovering. She insisted on helping me, and the rest is history – couldn’t be more fitting.
